SPIRA Running Shoes

Hey everyone, here is my shameless sponsor plug… I’ve been wearing Spira running shoes lately and find them to be the fastest shoes I’ve ever worn. The Del Sol for training, and the Stinger Elite for racing. My mile repeats have gone down substantially on the track, (about 10-15 seconds) and overall I’ve been able to do more miles training without aches and pains. If you order a set and put in the code: Lewis Elliot you’ll save 15% on your order. Check out www.SpiraFootwear.com Just extending the offer so that I’m not the only one enjoying these kicks.

I try to use the fastest everything equipment-wise, the new P4 is insane (wish that were a sponsor plug!). From the work I’ve done on the bike I think the sub-9 disc fits on it similarly to a P3, but I’m just running a regular disc. Rear brake is a little mushy, it’s a pretty technical bike and probably would say to avoid the P4 unless you “embrace” bicycle maintenance (and speed). Posting a pic of my ride soon, I ride a little slack-n-high (5cm setback, 11cm drop) and the Easton bars have very little stack so please forgive my spacers. cheers, Lewis

LOL! You might want to search for the recent “why do shoes have heels” thread started by Dev Paul since Spira shoes are pretty much the opposite …

Normally I prefer shoes with a nice rise to the heal, Spira shoes feel similar but also have a decent rise. I’ve tried pretty much every shoe and have a fairly neutral foot. I’ve been running my best times in these w/o normal problems experienced with low healed shoes like sore calves or achilles tendon. Just my two cents, by the way, I only first tried Spira because two other guys in our club were running quicker 10k’s with them. cheers, Lewis

Too bad they are banned for any USATF event.

Too bad they are banned for any USATF event.

Yeah, that’s going to be a big problem for most ST’ers.

Almost as big a deal as UCI bike regs.

I’m not sure I like the concept. Isn’t running with these shoes the equivalent to swimming with fins?

Or using aerobars, deep dish wheels, speedsuits, Newtons… It all depends how you look at it.

If its allowed (and helps) I’ll use it, if its banned I wont. For tris fins are banned, if they ever allow them I’d use them in a second.

I saw a certain well known US athlete try these on the Woodway tready at the OTC about a month ago…

Interesting.

Interesting concept, but I’m more interested in the Woodway…

yea man! that thing is SMOOTH!

I had never heard of these shoes until I saw an ad for them, and just ran a quick search on the forums, stumbling on this thread. Just as an FYI - while they are banned for USATF, they are LEGAL in all USAT events.
