Spinning indoors vs real riding outdoors

Hi All-

I caught a glimpse of a Chris Carmichael book which had a section on what the equivalent of spinning indoors on a trainer would be to real world riding outside.

I don’t remember which book it was, I quickly looked through it at a friends b-day party. Does anyone know of a web site to find this kind of info, or have an excel type chart that they could post. I think this would be helpful info come winter training time.

Thanks!

Trisha

Does this help?

This trainer has a chart that compares them:

I mostly use a kreitler system with a flywheel and fan resistance:

Awhile back, last fall maybe, Triathlete published an article on use of trainers, something like an hour on the trainer is equivalent to 1.5 hr’s on the road. I don’t recall who wrote it but that seems about right to me.
