Spinergy PBO spokes

Tell me about them. Are they any good? Pro and cons?

I had two pairs of wheels with PBO spokes, but I gave one pair away and I haven’t used the other pair in about eight years. (Bad rear hub.)

Good - Looked sort of cool and seemed to be bomb proof.

Bad - Not very aero.

Some people told me that they liked the “ride quality”, but I didn’t notice any difference.

Thanks , got a line on a pair of Stealths with em for a reasonable price. I was thinking of putting them on my old B-16 I’m going to sell to make the bike more attractive for resale

To anyone who knows anything about wheels, they won’t make the bike more attractive.

For what it’s worth, these wheels would not make a bike more attractive to me, and I certainly wouldn’t pay more if they were included. Availability of parts and it being unlikely that I could just drop them at any shop for service would be a hassle I’d not want to deal with. There’s certainly a novelty factor which could be good or bad depending on the buyer.

All that said, I always did like the idea of these spokes but it’s no surprise at all that they never really caught on.

I had a set of Xaero’s with them, bought them cuz they looked cool but had front hub problems.

They were stolen a few years ago and I don’t miss them at all. There are better choices for the same money, unless you are getting them for $100 or something like that.

Thanks everyone, I’ll pass on these.

Yup. Pass. I had some. The wind they would kick up while riding the trainer was enough to convince me they were super not aero.

Disclaimer - I have nothing to do with the company, I have 3 pairs of POB Stealth wheels . I often read reviews or ST posts that the POB spokes/wheels are too big, not aero, too heavy, rims/spokes not good looking, this and that … I find the wheels ride very nice, they are not harsh like most metal spokes. It’s the motor, man - I don’t find the wheels slow or un aero (maybe wind tunnel test say different) , but for the average rider . Wherever I go with the bike/wheels, strangers often comment - WOW, nice looking wheels/bike. I’m sure Zipp wheels are better, but for less than half the cost - they are pretty good. Customer service is very good.
However, attention Spinergy - to make the wheels even better, why not make those POB spokes flat, like bladed? It’s time to update. No reason why you couldn’t do that.

And I am looking for a set of 40mm road wheels and was considering those. I have a friend who has the all carbon ones, bike looks interesting and he says they perform well.
Are you guys referring to both the alu clincher and the full carbon PBO wheels when you say they perform poorly (not aero)?

As for being ugly, i just saw a thread about SHIV porn and there were a bunch of people saying how ugly that frame is, while I love mine. So I guess that’s a taste thing.
I am not blown away with the looks, but I don’t hate it.

I’m not an aero nerd, but those wheels are bombproof and do make great training wheels. I’ve beat the p*ss out of a set I have for years, and they’re still true and roll great. I’ve used them for crits too.

I rode a pair of Tiliums (earlier model but otherwise pretty much identical to the current Stealths) from 2004-2007. Back in the day, I was lazy/cheap and I used these wheels for all of my training and racing, so I probably put about 20,000 miles on them. As mentioned, they were bomb proof, and I thought they looked pretty neat. Times/fashions change, and I’m sure those in the know wouldn’t think much of these wheels today, but I’d still ride them. I bought some new wheels and since I didn’t have any use for the Tiliums I gave them to a guy who put them on his 'cross bike. He likes them a lot, but maybe that’s saying something about guys who ride 'cross?
