I use SpeedplayX2 stainless, and my feet are numb after 30-45 minutes. Have good fitting Pearl shoes. What adjustment do I need to make?
I used to get numb feet as well (different pedals though). I was told to focus on “pulling up” on the pedals for a short time (3-5 min each side) and it seemed to help. I also switched to different socks. Don’t know if this will help or not but it’s worth a try. Good luck.
Could be that your saddle is too high, shoes are too big, or that your cleats are not mounted where they should be.
Did this problem just start happening? Did you recently switch pedals? If you switched pedals, did you change the seat height? X2’s have a lower pedal to shoe distance than most other pedals.
i have these and my feet go a little numb too. interesting i’m not the only one. even though my shoes fit well, i have to wear paper thin socks…this helps a little.
I really like the Speedplay pedals (for weight and ease of entry), but I also had some Numbing issues after about 20 + miles. I think the free float is great for the knees, but put more pressure on the ball of my foot causing the numbness.
My solution: got the Speedplay Zeros with the adjustable (all the way to NONE) float. First tried them on my road bike - awesome; just recently put a pair on the tri bike. Problem solved. Still get the benefits of the Speedplay without the downside. Actually the only downside to these pedals is cost.
“Still get the benefits of the Speedplay without the downside.”
Isn’t the primary benefit the float?
Not sure about “Primary” as other pedals also offer up to 15 degrees of float.
The Zeros can offer any amount of float and in any direction and different right to left. I have locked out inward float, but allow some outside float to accomodate my abducted feet (duck feet). Also, they are much lighter than most other pedals (big plus to me with rotating weight), have the best ground clearance of any pedal (no big deal to me, although I did scrape my dura ace spds once), and most importantly are twice as easy to enter.
Could be the flexibility of your shoe sole.
do i need it to have stiffer shoe sole?
i use paper thin socks, i’ve used slightly thicker smartwools. same shit. i adjusted my seat, i have not adjusted the float on the pedal. maybe i just need to go to a good shop. anyone know any in the Dearborn area!!!???
I have found that Sidis, atleast for my feet, were painful on Speedplays. I liked them with Looks, however.
