Speedplay pedals and measuring power. What's the dream setup?

What are you Speedplay afficionados currently running for power?

Long time Assioma user, have two sets of Duos and love them. Thinking about switching to Speedplays on the race bike this season for the aero benefits (and because it’s super pro, obviously). Ordered some Bont Zero+ with 4-hole sole, so somewhat committed.

Looks like the Speedplay Powerlink power meter pedals won’t be available until this summer, and even then I’ve seen warnings on the forum about buying low serial number electronics. And they look like they’ll have the same big ugly spindle pod as the Assiomas, which I’m sure will cost me at least 1-2 watts, so obviously not acceptable /pink

So the question: what’s currently the best Speedplay + power meter setup for a Dura Ace drivetrain? Best in terms of aero and weight. Crank based power or spider or something else?

Edited to fix typo

I’m really happy with P2M Easton EC90SL cranks with AbsoluteBlack rings on my DA road bike. Very light and you can put some flat aero rings on.

Hard to go wrong with a p2m or Quarq Dzero. I’ve used both and they’re both great. Currently on a Dzero with Garbaruk 1x aero chain rings. Not as aero as a full aero crankset but probably not terrible either.

I have Speedplays and a Quarq DZero on both of my bikes. Very happy with this setup and wouldn’t change it, even for the Speedplay pedals with power.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

That’s a great data point that you’d stick with the same setup even with power Speedplays available. What factors contribute to that?

I went through the Quarq power meter wizard, looks like you need a new bottom bracket and cranks? I wonder if now is the time to switch to a 1x drivetrain.

For me, I don’t see the need to add a second power meter to my bikes. I’d make the switch when I buy a new one, though.

It may be mostly cosmetic, but it seems odd to go with the most aero pedal setup, low stack height, etc, and that have that big Assioma-style pod on each pedal.

Also, we’ll still have to wait for the details, but I don’t fully understand how it’d work for me. My shoes come within a few mm of rubbing on the crank with my current Speedplays. I don’t understand how the power version will be able match the 53mm Q-factor of the other new Speedplay pedals. At least without my changing my cleat position pretty significantly. (and my cleat position is not extreme…pretty near center in every axis of adjustment).

Ditto
I’ve only got a PM on my tri bike (Power2max NGeco) but would like to add one to my road bike too. I’d be quite happy with another Power2max, but I may replace that bike in the next year or two and I like to get a decent lifespan out of my hardware. Since I don’t know what my next bike will be, pedals seem the safest option to ensure future compatibility. However, I share trail’s concerns about fit. I’ll wait and see when there’s more info available.

This was my first thought too. I’m on the 50mm spindles and don’t have much shoe clearance. I can’t envision fitting a pod against the crankarm. But maybe I’m missing something?

If you’re looking for the “dream aero” set up, have to say its Speedplays with Sram AXS 1x Aero Chainring with built in Quarq.

Of course, that will mean changing your whole drivetrain, although I’ve seen some people running that AXS chainring with older 1x11 set ups so, its presumably compatible with a Shimano 1x11 set up…
