Speedplay Cleat Squeak?

I don’t know that I’ve ever spelled the word “squeek” before, so I found myself wondering if that was correct when I typed it…anyway…

So I checked old forums for this and found some relevant stuff, but nothing that has enabled me to solve the problem. I have some Speedplay Zero’s Stainless Steel and get random high pitched squeak noise. I’ve narrowed it down to only the right cleat on my heel in motion. I don’t want to limit the float anymore (which would prevent the heel in and the heel in squeak). I took the cleat apart, cleaned it, used loc tite for the screws etc, lubed it and still get the squeak. Could it be coming from the pedal bearing? I don’t think so considering the heel in motion is where it’s coming from but I don’t know anymore. They only have about 300 miles on em so I can’t image it’s the pedal. Also, I read in another thread that another dude fixed the same problem with a different type of lube (WL i think). Haven’t tried that, but my left cleat has no issues and has about the same heel in motion as my right…I’m using Finish Line Dry Lube right now. Thoughts?

Well, you spelled it correctly and then you went and spelled it incorrectly too

White Lightning is the best thing for speedplay cleats as far as I’m concerned. I keep a bottle just for that.

I agree with Mr. Lazy Ben…I’ve had Speedplay since I think 1992 or so (like when they first came out) and like many parts of my bike mixed with many years to try things (most very bad, but chaulk it up to experience), the White Lightning still works the best. If the noise is still there (notice I didn’t try to spell “that word”), turn up your Ipod (just kidding…don’t get me for that bad advice…though I personally do it). Take care

Bringing this topic back to life as I now have this problem. I wonder if it is a need for me to lubricate my pedals (with White Lightning or something else) or just buy new ones entirely. I have speedplay light action pedals/cleats around 3.5 years old and about 400 hours (~8000 miles) on them. Thanks.

I have a similar situation. What,s really strange is it only happens on the left pedal on my Tri bike with my NW tri shoes and not my Specialized road shoes, so I thought it was somehow coming from the cleat/shoe and not the pedal. I will try White Lightning for my ride tomorrow.
