Thanks to erverybody for a nice forum, its always funny to read about everybody.
But Ive recently noticed that its almost have turned out to be a bikeforum (i thought about posting a picture of my speedos, thread called speedoporn
I know thats its always fun to buy new shinny parts (I do it myself all the time), but it looks like a lot af STs now and then looses the perspective. The bikepart is 1/3 of the race, and most triathletes does looses a lot more on the run than on the bike.
So it would be a lot more obvius to post a picture on runningposition (or swimming), than the bikeposition where you only can gain some minuts in a IM?
Everybody can bike, but a lot cant run, so please remenber you are a TRIathlete.
mmmm, yeah, swimming is definetely important and being thatās where I personally (and many others here it seems too) get my ass handed to me in races. So yes working on my stroke, discussing it on the forum, posting pics of my stroke form, etc, etc, would prbably be better than posting the shiny new P3sl I just buit up with HED bars, a trick carbon fiber aerobottle mount, Aipp 909s with a silver/white/carbon/chrome decal set that matches the P3sl paint, no I mean anodizing job perfectly. But, ummm, a pic of me in my jammers in the pool just isnāt nearly fun as the bike pic. Gotta face it, biking is only one leg of the race and being the middle leg it rarely decides the race, but itās the one leg where we can obsess about the coolest new equipment (and Iām not talking new hand paddles here) and how we should spend $2000 on a pair of wheels thatāll save us 40 seconds:) Thereās simply more to talk about with the bike leg and add in the fact that we are admittedly at least slightly vain triathletes who think the shinier and lighter the bike the better, you end up with a triathlon/cycling forum;)
P.S. Iāll post that pic of the new bike as soon as I get the Dura-ace cranks on it tomorrow
Lars, where can I buy some Carbon Fibre Hand paddles? I donāt mean those big ass Tyr ones I want the slimlind finger paddles that speedo do. Do they make them in carbon fibre? For some reason they will not let me use my ti ones in my local pool.
Careful, you are peaking into the big dark secret of triathlon and ST. Indeed, if you REALLY want to be successful in this sport you will all most forget about the bike and invest almost all of your time and reasouces in swimming and running. The bike in the grand scheme of things is really just a bridge from the swim to the run. Itās no secret that Top coaches these days recruit kids with great swim and run talent. They donāt care about how they can ride a bike. They know that with the right training and a bit of time they can turn even a non-cyclist into a very good triathlon cyclist. Indeed, some of the best cyclists in this sport never rode a bike before taking up triathlon.
Many drone on and on about the bike, but the reality is that races are mostly won, lost and key places decided on the run. This is not to say that the bike is not important, but to para-phrase Lance Armstrong, Itās not ALL about the bike!( But if you just dropped in on ST, you might think otherwise) The bike keeps you in the game and sets you up for the run. The problem is it truly takes YEARS to build up good solid running fitness and running can be a ruthless selector on the bio-mechanical front. Not everyoneās body is build to take that type of pounding.
How did you come up with that? That is ādisciplineā weighted, not time-weighted. Are transitions 2/5ās of the race? Donāt bother cycling at all and see what kind of a run you have. So it is not so much about being faster on the bike as being strong, so there is plently in the tank for the run, I think the race distance is also a factor in your analysis. Probably there should be less emphasis on the bike up through Half-Iron. IMHO.
