Speeding ticket while biking

This is one of those I never would have believed it
.

I’ve seen cops with radar guns aimed at cyclists in my local park in the UK – a Sunday morning thing, when lots of riders are out and also lots of clueless pedestrians popping into the ‘cycling lane’.

I see the sense of it – motorists are limited to 30 mph and if a cyclist blows past the drivers might be tempted to think ‘if he can do it why can’t I.’

Something to frame.

Maybe he was trying to catch Fenton.

Umm, not to stir the pot, but it sounds like this guy was behaving like a complete asshole and deserved it.

Why would you pass cars that are going the speed limit? That is just asking for trouble in so many ways.

I would totally frame it.

I have motorcycles fly by me all the time in my car. Some of it might be “legal”, but sure dumb, IMO.

.

At least where I live, speed limits apply to cyclists, and we’re not supposed to overtake cars on the right either.

I have overtaken cars on the left though.

I’d still frame it.

Sanctimonious much? Oh, I guess this is ST…

He was going downhill in Richmond Park on a bike. The biggest danger was to himself if a deer jumped out in front of him.

I would def frame it.

+1

Richmond Park roads aren’t that wide and there are a lot of cars, cyclists and, yes, deer.

It’s not the place for your personal TT.

I would still frame the ticket.

They ticket cyclist on the local MUP trail here. Speed limit is posted at 20mph and they have an electric motorcycle that patrols it. I know one guy who got caught going 22mph and the cop said he blew through a stop sign. Points got taken off his drivers license for riding a bike on a MUP; seems odd to me.

I would totally frame it and happily pay it! I only wish I ever went that fast!

There was a dirt road in a park where I used to run that had a 10 mph speed limit. I used to pick up the pace there so that I could commit a speeding violation on foot. No tickets, unfortunately.

A local MUT has a long downhill with a 15mph speed limit posted at the top (and no rollerbladers permitted, apparently). Keeping the speed that low going down the hill feels like doing a trackstand.

That is really dumb. What would they do if the guy didn’t have a driver’s license?

If you are indeed in Philly as your username suggests - where is this?

Outside of Philly - Ridley Creek State Park in Media.

Ahh cool ok. I drive by there all the time but never used that park for anything.

I wondered the same thing. I’d have just claimed to not have any ID on me or something. I was told by the local cycling club that they are specifically targeting people that “look like bike racers”.

Right… (rolls eyes).

I doubt those tickets would even stand up in court.
