Speed Concept SLR - SRAM or Shimano?

Hey folks, I’m getting ready to order a Speed Concept SLR 7 and am hung up between groupset choice. My mechanic suggests that I go Force AXS for its feature set (integrated PM) and ease of setup. I’ve been riding Shimano since the beginning of time – looking to get talked off the ledge here!

Alternatively you could ask if it’s better to be choosing Democratic or Republican Party… Most of the people, including retailers, will have a biased preference.

I’d be choosing SRAM if:
I wanted a super reliable PMI was committed to 1x systemI was building-up a bike myself
I’d be choosing Shimano if:
I wanted a perfectly reliable 2x systemI wanted a cheaper 4iiii / Stages PM

Any trainer considerations ? Example I can’t do an AXS conversion on my smart trainer.
Do you have existing wheels you want to continue using ? Can they be converted to the appropriate hub ?

Thanks – the bike will likely never see a trainer and I will have it set up 2x. I’m just dreading going with AXS and experiencing my first missed FD shift…

What crank arm length does your fitter recommend?

170mm cranks
.

I have ridden over 100k miles last 5 years and personally would run SRAM only if in a 1x configuration. I would be open to change only if the new Red proves that it can reliably shift the front chainrings in a 2x configuration.

I was in same position as you on my SC with a garage of Shimano 8, 9 10 and 11 speed mechanical. I went ultegra 12sp for my build and that added some complexity over delivered in needing to do bb swap to allow me to use my quarq powermeter. Haven’t ridden it outside as much as I hoped for health reasons, but in the rides I did get, I’m happy. The synchro shift I was unsure about, but adding a beep from the Garmin head unit makes the world of difference. And I like the cleaner look with the single battery inside and not multiple batteries with a mix of recharge, coin battery and non replaceable.
