Speed Concept rubber cable cover? Why not like the prototype's

Just make sure to go really really fast so you don’t get passed by someone on a 1999 Cannondale Multisport 600…the ride back to T2 could feel awfully long at that point;) The SC is in a word…SLICK.

Definitely seeing shorter times (like the next couple weeks) for Shop stock and the first run of Project One Speed Concepts; hopefully the rest will be faster than expected.

Just took some quicky measurements off my transition.
Arm pad reach 47
Basebar stack 58.5
Basebar reach 65
Stack 60.8
Looks like I could ride a small with 110/75 stem and no/minimal pad spacers, or a medium with 100/45 stem. Small looks better in many ways- I would rather have the pads forward than way back.

What is not legal about the bars? Not 3 to 1?

For what it’s worth, Trek actually recommends using a bar that allows you to pull the pads back rather than push them forward. Not sure why (maybe they’re worried about knee clearance with the base bar).

As for the size and stem choice … look again. You said your pad stack is 608mm, but that you want to use a size small with the 110/75 stem. The minimum pad stack for that stem is 630mm. You’re very squarely a size Medium with the 100/10 stem, or you could run a small with the 100/45 stem. The small gets you closer to your current base bar stack, and lets you run the pads with the forward offset you prefer.

And yes, it’s the ratio that makes the bars illegal. I’d guess it’s about 5:1, maybe more.

Would the medium be a better choice in terms of eliminating spacers under the pads? Or will they be the similar?

Would either size take less spacers under the pads? Looks like it is close? My saddle height is 72cm- would a medium be “biggish” in that respect?

Looks like the Medium would require 5mm more in spacers - not much. Your saddle height is fine with either size.

Nick’s interpretation of the fit chart is spot-on.

A small frame with the 100x45 stem and a medium frame with the 100x10 are almost a wash with respect to spacers under the extensions at your pad stack. At 72cm saddle height the medium might look a tad large under you, but not horribly so. I think it comes down to how close a match on basebar coordinates you want to be vs your current bike. The small + 100x45 combo wins that one on reach, at +10mm vs the medium setup which would put you almost +30mm further out there.

On aesthetic grounds, I might opt for the small setup. Slowman would probably recommend the medium because it’s more frame & less stem.

Carl,

Thanks for the clarification on sizing.

Is the base/aero bar easily removed from the frame for purposes of packing for air travel?

Thanks,

Craig.

Remove stem cover, remove the 4 bolts holding the basebar to the stem, and it swings over and down. My personal preference is to pull the front brake cover as well and free the brake wedge for another few inches of cable travel. You’re not undoing any of your brake setup really, as the mechanism is reminiscent of the old Suntour Rollercam MTB brakes.

Carl

Carl, any news on when the SC will be available as a frameset only? Thanks.

Is that true about the WSD base bar being narrower?

I honestly don’t know. Will make inquiries

Thanks, Carl. I have to say, it is AMAZING to see a bike manufacturer finally post such a thoroughly understandable fit guide. And it’s frankly awesome how much adjustment there is on the Speed Concept. You guys did a fantastic, fantastic job. And the little hints in the fit guide are great (I never knew the trick of measuring saddle setback by placing the saddle against a wall, and measuring BB distance and then saddle distance. Very useful).

For those interested in a couple more pics, my article us up on the front page:

http://www.slowtwitch.com/...os/Detailed/118.html

I believe the stem pictured on both Lieto’s bike and the other bikes in that article is the 60/45, for those of you interested in what they look like. And I think the one pictured on all the trekbikes.com product shots (and the Project 1 page) is the 100/45. Am I right, Carl?

NOT true. OCLV Speed Concepts all get the same bar, which is 40cm C-C

Carl

40cm? That’s GREAT! I’m so sick of 42cm bars everywhere. I much prefer 40cm. Hurray!

Good. Saves me going back to my shop 3 days after paying my deposit and saying “Can I have the girls bar?”

Correct on both stems. Thanks for the comments, and it was good to finally meet you in person @TOC.

Carl

Looks like I should edit my post in the other thread.

So what exactly is the difference between the mens and the wsd version apart from the seat?
