I got a pair of the Trivent Expert since I am a big fan of the SW road shoe. Now I am having second thoughts, maybe I should have gotten the SW Trivent.
Has anyone used both? What are the main differences, other than the obvious BOA system.
I am not sure but it appears that the sole may be a bit thicker on the Expert? What about fit, comfort and weight?
Searched previous posts but could not find a direct answer
Thanks
The bottom of the sworks is the stiffest carbon specialized has on the shoes… The sworks are also much easier to get in and out of because of the cavity opening in the back.

good point, although it may take a bit longer to close the BOA.

It takes me like 1-2 seconds per leg to close the BOA, but I do that while I’m on the bike and already moving… so I would say that 2-4 second lag isn’t downtime. Of course same can be said with fitting the shoe without the cavity but I think there’s more chance for issues.
Yeah, count me as a big fan of the boa system on the S-Works. They tighten down so evenly across your foot and you can make small adjustments to the fit as you go and your foot swells a bit. Best shoe I have ever owned, so good I bough a pair for training and a pair for racing.
I use the S Works road shoe and love it. Recently switched from the Trivent to the LG Tri 300 and love them. Especially after custom heat molding them in the oven. They are worth a look.
I have had tremendous success with the Specialized Trivents for the past 4 years. I actually just picked up my S-Works Trivents at St. Pete Bicycles this afternoon, ironically enough. I haven’t even had a chance to put the cleats in, but I can tell they are going to be awesome. I figure the BOA system is going to take an extra 2-4 seconds, yes, but, you are also saving time by not having to stand on top of your shoes, then bending down, holding the shoe with your hand while sliding your foot in the opening at the top, tightening the strap, and repeating. With the SW, you can jump on (assuming flying mount), look down, slide your feet in right away without standing on the shoes, pedal a bit, and then tighten once moving. In all, I would say 30+ seconds of time savings where you are able to move at 25mph vs 16-18mph. Not huge, but I’ll take every second.
Did you use the S-Works Trivents in Kona? What do you think of them for IM racing compared to the S-Works Road?I’ve used the SW Road for everything from Oly to IM over the past 2 years, and I really like them, but the Tri-Vents seem promising.
Hey man…I have both shoes. Aside from better carbon, S-Works is significantly better and more functional than the expert. With the BOA on the expert, you have to pull the cap up in order for the cable to come loose, and push it back down so you can ratchet it tight. The S-Works BOA doesn’t move up and down and you can fine-tune it a lot easier.
S-Works road shoes also have replaceable heels and much better ventilation and will form better to your feet. The Expert shoes feel bulky to me…hope this helps.
not to shamelessly plug (but I will) I wrote up a review on my blog…
Personally I thought the toebox was a bit roomier than my (albeit older) experts. That wasn’t a good thing for me particularly (although still perfectly serviceable), but it could be for you.
That said… I love mine.
I did and they were great.
