Specialized SL4 Fork Recall

FYI-
**
Props to Specialized for getting out in front of this…
**
Team,

Today Specialized released a very important recall notice effecting ALL 2012 AND 2013 TARMAC SL4 Models, as well as 2013 CruX and 2013 Secteur. The manufacturing issue found and now corrected effects the integrity of all SL4 model Forks. All SL4 Forks need to be returned to Specialized for proper inspection. There is no other way to ensure your fork is safe to ride unless this inspection takes place at Specialized. If the fork is found to be compromised, the fork will be fixed with an inserted carbon sleeve, OR replaced with a color match. I need you help to reach out to those who may be effected by this recall. Whether they are a team member, prize winner, or you yourself, everyone who rides a bike with this SL4 fork (2012/2013 Tarmac SL4 , CruX 2013, or Secteur) is affected. The great thing is that every Specialized dealer will be able to help!

Next Steps-
-Each of you should be affiliated with a local Specialized Dealer. Dealers will soon be equipped with everything they need to address the recall. Dealer’s will take your fork, mark it with the appropriate details and contact information, pack it safe, and send into our facilities in SLC for inspection. Our team there will be sending forks back within a few days after inspection. Once these are back in the dealer hands they will be ready to be placed back on you bikes.

-There is no need to bring in your entire bike, unless you need help to disassemble, all the Dealer needs is the fork.

We really appreciate your patience during this time, and please understand the safety of our riders is our number one concern.

I just went to their website to confirm. It’s not posted there yet, but a quick call to them and they DID confirm this is true. Will be up on the website soon.

Something tells me the claim of 2 failures out of 12,000 forks is waaaay low. I wonder what it takes to be qualified as one of these two. There are lots of people on various message boards claiming fork failures. Oh well, good to see this is being addressed. Though I wouldn’t like to send my fork in to be told that it’s ‘OK’ and survived a manufacturing issue unaffected. Riding on a fork that you don’t have total confidence in is not fun.
