the gel compartment of my Shiv’s Fuelcell storage system holds about 6-10 gels depending on the type which is not enough for a long distance race especially if I want to add some solids into the food mix. So I can see a couple of options:
Go all in and buy a custom rear box: https://custombikexcessories.com/products/ols/products/preorder-specialized-shiv-rear-box , use it to store the flat kit, cut open the bottom for the Fuelcell rubber cover and stuff the Fuelcell full with gels. This would of course be much more expensive but looks like a neat setup if it is possible to use the Fuelcell completely for Gel storage. Does anybody have any experience with this kind of setup?
Just pick up gels along the way and forget about solids.
So any ideas? I kinda like the look of the back box I have to admit, but am a little hesitant to pull the trigger without some first had reviews / recommendations.
not a direct first hand experience of that custom draft box, but im using his replacement bento box for my p3x that turns it into a fuel cell like your shiv has. product is quality. fit is 99%. if the texture was different (i think its 3D printed) and matched the bike more it would look like it either came with the bike or was a direct cervelo accessory. i wouldnt hesitate to get that draft box if you went that route.
I like the bottle idea - from the nutritional point of view. But I finally managed to clean-up my cockpit by switching to a Vision Metro TFA cockpit, so I am not too keen for a front end bottle.
Thanks for the feedback on the quality, really tempted to pulle the trigger on the box.
My friend did exactly what you listed in #2. Bought that exact box to go on the back of his shiv for his flat kit. Cut open the fuel cell and packed it full of gels and food. Maybe he will comment on this thread but it worked perfectly. He had a BTA bottle but not 100% sure if he used a bottle behind the seat. Such a great setup for full distance tris.

Thanks for the (second hand) report that this is actually a viable setup. I got trigger-happy and ordered the box. Should take a few weeks to reach Europe but when it arrives I’ll let you guys know how things are going. I got to Fuelcells so sacrificing one and cutting out the bottom is possible.
WOW, that thing is sweet, I’m totally getting one of those.
Hi all,

Bento Box it like so: https://www.tririg.com/...ized_Shiv&num=11
Unfortunately Dark Speedworks doesn’t directly sell in Europe and with shipping and import duties it’ll be very hard to justify getting the 483 so it’ll most likely be the XLab Stealth Pocket 400c
