Worked with my fitter a few weeks ago to select a new saddle and ended up settling on the Specialized Romin Evo. I borrowed one to demo for a week and the right saddle rail was loose where it connected into the rear ‘pocket’ on the shell (saddle was brand new out of the package). I returned the demo and bought a new one, did the same thing right out of the package again.
This is the basic Cro-mo rail model. I haven’t experienced this with any other saddles from Specialized or any other brand, but now it’s two in a row. I can keep returning them for warranty, but is this… normal?
I have at least 5 of the Romins and it is not normal. The rail is one piece and it does a tight bend where it fits into the “pocket” on the front of the saddle. What I don’t quite understand is why only one rail would appear loose.
Shot in the dark but my Shiv seat post had a insert for Carbon and then a different one for Alloy. Using the wrong one such as the carbon insert on a alloy seat post resulted in a lose fitting.
The ‘loose’ happens at the right rear pocket into the shell. Nothing to do with mounting on the bike - it pops around even unmounted. I too have had many Romins of various iterations over the years and this is a first… and a second. Saddle is otherwise totally functional, just annoying to have it crunching underneath you when riding…
I have the Romin Evo CrMo as well, no issues with a loose rail. Where there is movement, there will be wear; where there is wear, there will be failure. They probably made a bad batch. Return it and get one that’s ok.
i bought a new romin evo with this problem: fitted it to the bike and one rail was loose - the rail was loose on the rear mounting point on the saddle, tiny amount but just enough that you could move the saddle when clamped to the bike and very annoying.
sent it back and got a new one and no issues with the replacement.
