Specialized Roval 321 or ENVE SES Disc?

I have to decide what back wheel I should kit up my awesome QR PRSix Disc with. I have now landed on going for the tubeless setup instead of the tubular which I have been riding since 2009.

How I see it there is only two options, the Specialized Roval 321or ENVE SES Disc. The price is fairly similar and weight difference is 210 g in favor for the Roval.

Any thoughts of what I should go for?

Any other options?

I think you can also get HED Jet disc wheels for disc brakes.

I have the Roval 321 (rim brake) and it’s apparent quality belies its price, and compared to the Enve it appers to be ‘a steal’ (Enve is considerably more than the Roval here). Actual weight of mine is 1004g, it feels good too, and the other folk I’ve shown it too all guessed a price over 1K more. I will change the ratchet though as it comes with the standard DT swiss 18t engagement ring.
Previous discs I’ve had are, Zipp 950, Zipp Sub 9, Zipp Super 9, Lightweight, Campag Ghibli and old Aerosports btw.

If you are in the EU, Revolver Wheels is a cheaper option. The brand seem to be popular in the UK TT crowd?

HED Jet +
.

No reason to buy a HED Jet+ even with disc brakes until they release a full carbon model.

I see on your site you were sponsored by Boardman… moving to QR ?

321 disc for me… unless I can find a Enve at a discount… then I can be matchy matchy. I’m currently on Enve 5.6

Why?

Yes, I had my last ride on the Boardman in Ironman Barcelona and have not updated my website yet. QR will be very good!

Because for the same price or close to it, you can get full carbon wheels. I just find it funny that HED put disc brakes on an aluminum rim. However, it’s probably stronger than the carbon rim?

Very nice bike, but no resellers in Europe. Delivery by mail ?

just curious, what is your height and wich size did you choose for the PR6.

I’m 6 feet and they recommend the 54, but stack and reach of the 52 is exactly what I have on my P3 size 54. Looks like with a QR size 54 I will not be able to go as low as I’m currently (no spacers, slammed down).

Got my Hed Jet 6+ disc wheels for $899 plus tax. Pretty hard to beat for a product from a great company with a solid history. They are about 200gms heavier than the Hed Vanquish, put those are $2500…

Let me ask you this, why do you need full carbon wheels? Plenty of testing is out there showing they aren’t more aero (in fact the head disc may be the fastest of those listed below). Save for the Roval disc there isn’t much difference in weight either. So in the grand scheme you are paying $1300-1500 for more bling. If that’s what a person want, whatever floats their boat. But to “there is no reason to buy a head jet disc” is simply wrong

Roval 321 -1015g, $2500
Enve Disc - 1225g, $2700
Zipp Super 9 disc - 1171g, $2731
Hed Jet Disc^2 1230g, $1200

In Belgium and the netherlands there are QR retailers.

We have a supplier in Norway

IIRC, with the PR series Quintana Roo decided to “name” the sizing by stack, so 52 = 52cm of stack as opposed to a Cervelo 54 which means a somewhat-medium-sized bike. Traditional nomenclature (used to be top tube size) for non-traditional geometry bikes.

Another honorable mention:
Vision Metron Disc - 995 g - $1,250

Roval weight at HED price

Metron is a rim brake clincher-only, relatively narrow (larger tires will probably compromise its aerodynamics compared to the other options) and you can’t run tubeless which I believe you can with the Roval and I know you can with the HED.

oops, forgot this was for disc brake. They do offer tubeless though and it’s 1,150g for $1,400

For clincher applications it looks competitive. Width is 24mm, just 1mm narrower than Hed
