Specialized Pro Set actual degrees....calling Specialized gurus please

Hi all looking for some clarification. Looking at the Specialized site I’m still unclear, yes my first name is Mo, last name Ron!

I have the -12 degree version and in the window behind the stem it says: +16 to the left and -8 to the right. I would like to know what my actual stem angle is in this instance with my 73 degree head tube angle. How do I interpret this…It’s certainly not plus 16 degrees as my eye shows me it’s nearly even to my flat top tube, which tells me it’s nearer to -17 degrees.

Reason for all the specificity is to avoid buying 5 different stems as I’m ohhh so close to nirvana comfort. Using this trusty resource with the above information I should be able to narrow my stem search down considerably. Thanks for any clarification on what my actual stem angle is currently.

Stem in question is set to -8. If you “flip” it - it would be +16.
And take care using the Spec top cap as if you don’t install it correctly (so it is flush with the top of the fork steer tube).

Also - there is a tool (calculator - google it) that gives you all the spec with different stem lengths and angles (also try weight weenies and do a search there) with specific forks and frames.

Go to http://www.specialized.com/...eName=ServiceManuals and then select “Stem - 2009 Multi-Position Stem Instruction Guide”

Right now you have it set to -8. That particular shim will allow the stem to be set to -16, -8, 8 or 16.

Edit: Here is a handy link for comparing the impact of any changes: http://www.brightspoke.com/t/bike-stem-calculator.html

One side note that confuses some, the -8, +16 numbering is the angle relative to the steerer, not true horizontal (level) or vertical (plumb).

I’m kinda fond of this one, a little cleaner to read and nice visual…thanks for the info!

The posters above are correct. Additionally, you can get different spaces to achieve a true 12 deg etc.
