Specialized Evade vs. Giro Synthe?

I know the Evade has tested quite favorably in independent tests from what I have read and heard. Is there any independent data on the Synthe out there? I know Giro did their Wind Average Drag calculations, but I would have preferred to see CdA instead. Is the aero basically going to be a wash between the two unless I buy both and test myself in a wind tunnel (or do a field test)?

Agree that it will be hard to tell which is better for you without some sort of testing.
The difference between the two is likely to he small enough that you should just buy the one that feels most comfortable or is the least expensive.
I’d personally go for the Evade because I think it looks cooler. That’s got to be worth some speed.

I own and use both. I can’t speak for the aero difference, since it is too small to feel. But in general,

  • Sythne is (to me) lighter and more comfortable, and can actually store your sunglasses
  • Synthe is much better ventilated

This isn’t to say that the Evade is bad in any of the above categories, just that given the choice between the two I would wear the Synthe if it is really hot out. Conversely if it is really cold I will choose the Evade.

I really wanted to get a Synthe; however, my advice to you would be to go make sure that both fit equally comfortably.

Turns out that on my head (as with many others) the Synthe didn’t sit well and the Evade sat perfectly. That made it an easy decision regardless of aero.

If they both fit well, then you can dig in here.

What’s the fit difference between the two? I have more of an oval shaped head. Currently using a Uvex FP 3.1 helmet which fits very nicely.

I have an oval head - and a big one. For me the Synthe is snug to my head shape all the way around, where as the Evade leaves some space on either side. Not a lot, but moreso. Both are generally oval shaped.

I have ridden the Atmos in the past and had poor luck with it being so round. I would pinch my head front to back and have a full finger’s worth of room on either side. Not so with the Synthe.

Synthe is really well vented. As for the Evade… well, how many guys have you seen wearing it in the Giro the last couple of stages? Even Sagan in some of the ToC stages where he was competing for the sprint was wearing the Prevail. It’s also alot cheaper than the Evade where I live. Synthe vented so well compared to my old helmet I had to wear a cap/beanie underneath it when it was under 10 degrees (50F).

I have an oval headMe too. I found the Evade to fit better than the Synthe, but both took a back seat to the Poc Octal.

The big difference is Evade is more oval than synthe.
I can somehow fit into synthe med(no very comfortable), but only Evade large.
However, when I had a large Evade and a large Synthe side by side, I would pick Evade.
Synthe large has a large profile.
