What happens if you hit the distress button…foes a rescue team come out or do your GPS coordinates with automated message get emailed to a list of contacts you register ?

FWIW, The technology that Specialized has incorporated is not a tracker, it’s a crash sensor. In the event that you are unconscious or debilitated, it will send an alert to those on your contact list. As far as I know, IceDot* is the only technology of this kind on the market.
If you do not want to use the feature you do not need to activate it, nor give your credit card information. Buy the helmet and use it as your normally would.
Consumers can make the choice whether it provides them value or not.
*Addition for Clarity: I referred to the asterix IceDot as such because it was the original technology. For Clarity this is the same / similar technology as in the Specialized ANGI Sensor as Specialized has purchased IceDot.

Probably would help if you had read the linked article first. It has a lot of technology never in the Icedot product, and it’s now $49 for just the pod. And it requires cloud access.
