So I just received my “HED 3” off of Ebay. I go to order white HED 3 decals to replace the orange decals from HED and they let me know that the wheel is an old Specialized. Should I be pissed or just ride it? Needless to say, no white decals for me.
Just ride it. If it’s in good shape, it won’t matter much.
The big issue is gong to be with warranty issues. I don’t remmber the specifics but I remember a previosu post mentioning that HED will not cover the specialized wheels under their warranty but will for a HED wheel.
I would perhaps cal someone at hed and see if they would be able to help you out with the specifics.
good luck
taku,
Specialized has not made this wheel for a number of years. Are you believing there was some kind of lifetime warranty on this wheel?
If the Specialized wheel has been okay up to now, after all these years, I’d have to believe that it will do fine unless someone is intent upon abusing it beyond anything that is reasonable.
The Specialized/Hed wheels are virtually indestructible short of collapsing the clincher rim on one. Many are used on tandems. Short of a hub issue, 7 or 8 speed not compatible with 9 or 10 speed, the wheel should be fine. If you can’t get a conversion cassette, you probably can convert the hub.
the point I was trying to make was that if it was a HED wheel he could take advantage of the crash replacement policy and the great customer service of HED…
this is the case even though the specialized and HED are identical wheels and even if the HED wheels are a little older.
The issue was brought up of whether he was “duped” in his ebay purchase.
I don’t think HED gives the warrantly to anyone except the original buyer – I remember trading some e-mails with them about this before I bought my wheels, since I was looking at a used pair at the time and actually e-mailed them to ask.
