What race is that?

What race is that?
Whatever it is, take a look at the name to his right, it’s bigtime, unless that is another Benny Vansomethingorother.

I hope he wins. That would be great.

Oh I thought it was in a Colorado medical institution after that terrible beating you gave him. Good race, and I promise I will never dis you again. You da man. G

Powerman Zofingen. Congrats to Kenny on stepping up to the plate and entering what is considered on a World stage as the crown jewel in the sport of duathlon.

Looks like the crown jewels are fading by that entry list, not many in it, is that all ?

Last year there were 164 mens and 19 women finisher at Powerman Zofingen: http://services.datasport.com/2004/tri/zofingen

surprised to see Andre Bour on the list…didn’t he test positive just last year before IM france?

He claimed that he used a medicine that he could buy without recipe in a drugstore. Because of this he was banned only for 9 month. If you understand German you can read more about this strange story:

How many in say 1999 ? I am sure it used to be a lot bigger than that. Have all the euros learnt to swim and gone to Ironman ?

I found the results back to 99:
2004: 164 + 19
2003: 277 + 23
2002: 182 + 17
2001: 329 + 25
2000: 330 + 34
1999: 489 +48

You can check the results here, just change the year in the link: http://services.datasport.com/2002/tri/zofingen

Dropped to one third ! It seems Ironman has sucked the life out of everything non Ironman, same story in our local races.

One reason I’ve heard for the drop in race attendance at Zofingen is that it had become placed at what some considered an inappropriate time with regard to IMH…Back in the early-mid 90s it was considered a good prep race by many of the top pros…over the years it seems the thinking changed and the race became “too close” to do prior to IMH…so this year they’ve moved it a few weeks earlier to mid-August…I hope that helps, because it really is a giant of a race…Its been on my list of races to do for as long as I remember. Next year is hopefully that year…as that is my plan.

Last year the weather was bad. It rained the whole night and at least half of the bike. This was a reason a lot of athletes signed up but did not start. And there were no entries on Saturday because of the bad weather.

But the race is really nice and very hard. You have a lot of climbs on the bike and even more on the runs.
