South Lake Tahoe - Need some help

I’m going there in July for a wedding. It looks like Reno, NV is the closest airport but from Charlotte it is an all day, 2-3 stop flight. Is there a better way to get there?

We’ll have a full day after the wedding to do “stuff” so what’s good to do? Hiking, paddle sports, swimming (may be chilly) are all possibilities.

Recommend any good restaurants?

Thanks is advance!

check for direct flights into Sacramento - it’s not too bad of a drive. Or, fly into SF or Oakland and make about a 3 hour drive (assumes little/no traffic).

Water is cold, so if you want to swim you’d do alright with a wetsuit, but can survive without one.

I’d recommend finding the closest trailhead for the Tahoe Rim Trail and do a long trail run/hike or mountain bike.

For your day off, rent a bike and ride the lake loop.

on a weekend in July?

It’s a 2 hour drive from Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe except for Friday when it could be longer.

For hiking check out the Tahoe Rim Trail:

You can rent Kayaks at numerous places.

Tep’s Villa Roma has been in South Lake forever. The prices are reasonable and the food good.

I’d do the drive from Sacramento rather than Reno. It’s a pretty drive up to the mountains and is pretty open – unless we have a good snow storm, then everybody and their brother is headed to Tahoe to ski and the traffic is terrible.

Thanks all. I appreciate the info.

I’ll check into flights to Sacramento. Kayaking may be out best option since my friend is neither a swimmer, biker, or runner. I think she can wield a paddle, though.

Snow in July? Really?

Oh, no, not July. I think I forgot to read that in the original post.

I’m just grumpy of the fact that the 80 has been jammed up the past 3 weekends due to a snow system coming in.

On the plus side, I hear that a number of nice casinos and hotels are only charging <$40 a night in Tahoe.

I drove to Sugarbowl on Presidents Day weekend from the East Bay in less than 3 hours and on this past Sunday to Soda Springs in the same time…there was no traffic and there were no lift lines either. Tahoe has been very quiet this winter.

Took the kid skiiing for thie very first time on Sunday, had an absolute hoot.
