South Carolina folk: weather in late December?

Whats it like down there in late Dec /early Jan temperature wise.? Climate data shows avg temp of 50 to 55. Correct?. Whats the warmest I can hope for and the odds of that happening and then of course worse case scenario is…??..snow??..

Mornings will probably be colder than that, but that’s a reasonable average for where most days will end up. It would be unusual, but not unheard to hit 70 during the day. The other side is that last year it snowed on Christmas Day. We typically get our coldest weather in late January through February.

Depends, too, on what part of the state you’re gonna be in. The upstate area has some mountains and is considerably colder than the lowstate coastal region. It can actually be quite comfortable in the low state during winter, but it can indeed get fairly cold. In a mild winter year, you’ll love the weather.

You will need to look at the average temps. where you plan on going. Like previously mentioned, upstate can be quite different than the lowcountry at that time of year.
