The Cowtown Marathon/Half marathon in Ft. Worth has done something similar with 5 years worth of medals creating a star.
Very cool. Definitely gives those of us that like to collect things the excuse to do it year after year.

Hey I have some of those, too 
I felt the ridiculous need to have at least one half, full and ultra medal though. Not my best decision making, but they definitely kept me coming back with this medal series.
Rev 3 Portland in 2012. Finisher’s medals fit inside of the AG awards medals like a jigsaw puzzle.

A few local races have done something similar making it a mini series this year. I thought it was an interesting idea.
