We got some, but not all, of our sold Felt S22’s in today with more already shipped so the backorders for sold units we have are arriving now. The ones we got today look very, very nice. The component spec is quite remarkable for the price. Even the cogset is a Dura-Ace 10 speed. A nice frame, Duar-Ace 10 speed tri bike for around $2000 with Profile Carbon X’s? That is a no brainer.
We don’t have a lot left for stock (open sale, I think only 1 bike at this point, a 54cm) because the rest are sold already. We are still waiting on some units to arrive also, so if you are one of our customers, we will call you as soon as your bike is here- the orders are being filled according to purchase date- first in, first out.
Anyway, someone earlier this week on the forum was asking about delivery dates- so the bike does exist, there are a few being built here right now!
Oh, I should mention, the Truvativ “external bearing” Dura-Ace style crank on there is very, very nice. Nice chainrings, beautifully finished carbon fiber arms. Cool bottom bracket too- you can see right through it to the other side of the bike through the hollow spindle. Fancy.
Tom, Any ideas as to why Felt when with the TruVativ crankset as opposed to the FSA carbon crank? Do the external bottom brackets make that much of a difference to the rider? (Can you tell a difference between the new BB style vs. the old?)
No, I don;t know what Felt’s reasoning was- I don’t know specifically what lead tho theri decision. That may be a matter between them and the component vendor.
My GUESS would be either a pricing issue or the fact that the Truvativ crank is seen on less bikes and presents a little nicer visual representation (i.e. it looks cooler). As for function/durability/servicability- well, at this stage we are going on their recommendation since we do not have miles on this equipment yet.
You got me thinking about these cranks so we did some research. Did you know the retail price of this crankset, without bottom bracket, is $389.99? That is incredible- this is a feakin’ $400 crank on this bike!?!?
Does Felt steal this stuff? We didn’t even look at the bottom bracket price.
Bud, Congratulations on your new bike, its going to look sweet. I am gettting my first tri bike, s32, on Christmas day, I am pumped! KYrocket Kevin Jasper
I just got my S22 in today as well, and all I can say is wow, the bike is unbelievable, I paid 1950 for the bike (sponsor discount) and at that price the bike is a ridiculous steal. Can’t wait to take it tomorrow.
what’s a P2SL? I have a P3SL, which is a much nicer bike than an S22, but about $2500 more money as mine is speced.
That said, I would have no reservations about riding one of these. It’s pretty darn nice- once I get my pedals, cranks, seatpost, bars and saddle on it so it fits me right…
That is a GREAT deal (esp. w/carbon cranks and profile bars) but remember that the most expensive parts of a DA kit are the STI levers ($450) and brakes($250). If you trade out the bar end shifters and the tektro brakes for DA you raise the price up into a more realistic price range for a full DA built bike.
Ha! I know the bike shop! I’m from Cincy, but when I was doing a tri up in the Akron area, I stopped by there and heard the claim. It was quite a nice, large shop though. You don’t often see several new Litespeed blades, vortex and ghisallos along with QR tiphoons just hanging there! I’ll be checking out Tom’s shop too for my next bike =
