Some people asked about the new Newton trail shoe: Here's our review (good and ......)

Erik got back from the Newton running clinic at their headquarters and brought a pre-release production pair of their new Newton Terra Momentus trail shoe. He is an enthusiastic trail runner so was the obvious tester.

Based on Erik’s feedback and examination of the shoe running in the high desert and some road miles too we learned some interesting things about the shoe’s design and construction and discovered at least one area for some improvement, so we cooked up this little review:

Nice report, thanks. 15 to 20 seconds per mile faster eh? Hmmmm…

I almost hesitated putting that in there for fear of skepticism. But- I’d wager other people on this forum have had similar (good) results and the corresponding (not so good) results that I also discuss…

I’ve been running in these for a little over a month now and love them, they are going to be my winter running shoe for sure. Nice write-up.

Who’s Erik?

“This reviewer was an early Newton adapter. I bought my first pair when they originally became available.”

Would be beter if the reviewer was an early adopter…

15-20 seconds per mile I will pay for. Holy crap. I assume that should hold for their on-road models?

That result was tabulated in the road model Newton, the first shoe they released, I think it was two years ago prior to me doing Ford Ironman Wisconsin (what year was that?).

fixing now- thank you.

Well now I know what I’m doing on Saturday.

Ridiculous!

And since when is 12.1oz for a women’s shoe “moderate to light”?? My size 12 running shoes weigh half that. Do I run offroad with them? No. For that, I use my Nike Streak XC2.

They’re even lighter.

I don’t think you read the article.

  • I did not even weigh a woman’s shoe, nor did I make mention of doing so.

  • Do read the section about weight and the comparison shoes- both heavier AND lighter.

instead of taking pictures of starving kids in africa, how about we feed them instead of buying newtons.

That’s me in those photos- I’ve just lost weight.
