Sockless shoe choices for Brooks lovers

OK, it’s a weird title but I use Brooks Launch as my basic training shoe and absolutely love them. I can’t find a good racing shoe I can wear sockless and looking for some recs from other Brooks lovers. I got blisters from my Nike flats and Kwicky Blade Lights (also too roomy in the toe box for me). The Kinvaras are too stiff. I really liked the Asics DS Racers but not convinced they’d be good sockless plus I’d rather not have to deal with a tongue.

I’m thinking that either the Zoot Ultra TT or Race shoe will be the winner. Their new lineup comes out next spring so I’m hesitant to spring for a new pair of this year’s models.

Thoughts? Recs?

Look no further than the Brooks Racer ST 5. If you can stand the orange and blue, it’s comfortable enough to wear sockless. BTW, I’ve stepped down from Beast to Adrenaline to this shoe. The only complaint I have is that I don’t think it will go 300 miles.

.

never had any blisters in my green silence. they fit like gloves too.

I wanted to try the ST5 but my local shop didn’t have my size. Will give it another go.

Have you tested these against the Green Silence or T7? Wondering if the T7 would be good sockless.

And thanks for the link.

This. Train and race sock less in my green silence.

I wear the Launch, ST4&5, and T7 sockless. Had a blister issue once with the T7s but that’s it, no other problems.

I’ve run 13 miles in them sockless. Haven’t tried the others.

The ST5 is GREAT! I’ve got some T7s on the way to try out we shall see

I love my Ultra TTs - they work great without socks. With both the 3.0 and 4.0, I have had no issues going sockless for up to half-marathon distance.

I like my T7s, but have blistered in them EVERY time I race in them, I even have blood stains in them from the first race done sockless. I’m going to wear them in a bit at the track and see if they get better. Otherwise I’m in your boat. My old T5s seemed better sockless.

inexpensive trainer that I run sockless in is the Reebok Realflex. Love them.

the one time I blistered in my T7s was doing a slow pace recover run, 4 miles. Put a blister on each arch. Since then, every run in the T7s has been ar warp pace, either racing or a tough brick.

x2…went from the Launch to ST5, good shoe for sock less running…now I alternate between the ST5 and Zoot 3.0, once I folded the back heel tab down on the Zoot (so it doesn’t rub my achilles)…it’s THE best shoe I’ve found so far for sock less running, very comfortable.

Am a Brooks fan…

Long course sockless - Green Silence, like these as the heel-toe drop is not too much

Short course - Mach 12 Spikeless, insanely light, feel like a sock, 4mm drop and an out and out racing flat

I don’t have problems with the ST5 as well, and just picked up T7’s. I can’t see blistering in them as they fit nice and snug.

If you can wait until October 1, Brooks will launch their new line called Pure Project. They appears very Kinvara/Lunar racer-like. I read online that the new line was designed by a group of Nike defectors that had a hand in Nike’s Lunar development. You can’t always believe what you read online but they do look interesting, more info here: http://www.brooksrunning.com/PureProject-Collection/pureShoes,default,pg.html?gclid=CIGph8eH0aoCFc465QodSi4FzA

I’ve been running in Brooks for 23 years. They used to have a nice tri flat back in the mid '90’s.

I just had my first run in the Zoot Ovwa and loved them. The design without the high heel tab is great.

That being said, I will be getting some from the Pure Project when they come out.

  • Mach 12 Spikeless, insanely light, feel like a sock, 4mm drop and an out and out racing flat *… for those with narrower feet only. i could barely get my feet into a mach12 that was 2 sizes too large.
