Laurin Weisenthal just swam across the English Channel in 8:33. The minimum distance is 21 miles, and actual distance is probably longer due to tides. That works out to at least 2.4 mph, or an IM swim every hour for eight and a half hours. Water temperature ranges between 55-62 degrees, no wetsuits allowed.
Always wanted to swim that and still do. But after 17 years or so of competive swimming I find it hard to get into the pool to train. Actually got a few of the companies that help you book marked. A great feat she did and Congrats to her !
I remember Larry Weisenthal from the glory days of rec.sport.swimming when he was locking horns with Terry Laughlin back hen a lot more people thought TI was the shiznit.
He’s probably still over the moon with pride over his daughter’s swim. It was always so clear how dearly he loved his kids.
