This year my new year’s resolution is to practice patience. Unfortunately for me, and sometimes for those that have to deal with me, I am terribly impatient.
I don’t like having to wait at a doctors, salon, PT office, or massage therapist’s office for longer than 10 min. with which I have an appointment
I hate having to wait for food at a restaurant longer than 15-20 min.
I am not a fan of having to wait in line for registration for a triathlon the day before the race. The line always takes forever. That’s why they make specific times for each category of athletes.
I really hate having to wait more than 3 days for a package that I ordered online and paid extra to have it sent to me in 3 days
I also do not favor having to wait 1 business day for a check to post to my account or how the bank cashes checks before the deposits go through…WTF???
Bottom line: I am just really stinkin’ impatient and I know it is definitly a character flaw.
So, this year I am going to work on being as patient as possible and not getting all fired up about having to wait for things. Afterall, I have to make people wait for things from my store all the time and 99% of the time, it isn’t my fault.
The pattern for the past two years has been: run too much, get a stress fracture. repeat thrice. I need to break that cycle! So I resolve to run most days of the week, 5-8 miles, instead of going crazy with high mileage.
-Be more patient with my 2 young sons, and to not lose my temper with them
-Lose 25 pounds so that I’m at 160 for IMLP in July
-Eat better…more fruit, more veggies, less beer and wine
Be in shape to make it to the top of Whiteface at the irontour.
Buy a real tri bike
ride more with my wife of 26 years
lose 10 lbs before the summer
work less and enjoy training this summer
My resolution is going to make a commitment to my healthy livestyle, with all the turmoil in my life this year i haven’t been very good to me. This is going to include eating better, training consistently and actually racing. I am also going to try to be more socially active, i’ve pretty much done nothing this year that wasn’t family related. Sad confession, I can’t rememeber the last time I went on a date.
Hey Jim…if you’re in the mood for racing with some international flavour…come up into Ontario…we got lots of racing. You can crash at my place if you need to as well…chances are if there is a race taking place I am either there racing or helping out.
I hate waiting, too. So I go to great lengths to avoid it - like getting the first appt of the day (they can’t get too behind on that one, can they?), avoidng the rush hour for restaurants, getting the packet the day ahead, stuff like that.
My resolution is to work harder on my business - I have a lot of great new ideas and just have to get stuff done. I also want to have less clutter in my closets and around this house.
Hey Bikesportgirl - don’t feel bad about being impatient - it’s a character trait of us A Type personalities that tend to do ridiculous things like tri’s and reading ST. I’d guess about 95% of us are impatient - it goes with the territory.
My resolution is to stop fixating on how to retire in the next year and resign myself to the fact that I’m going to be a working stiff for the next 5 years, what with two kids talking about continuing on in university.
You’re probably right about that, but sometimes being impatient gets really bad for me. Sometimes, if I have to wait in line too long, I just put everything back or leave it in the cart and leave. Not so good.
