So much winning, Perkins Coie edition

Proceeding directly to judgment and forgoing a trial due to the obvious unconstitutionality of the action, Federal judge slams Trump administration for trying to shut out law firms Trump doesn’t like.

(1) ORDERED that plaintiff’s Motion for Summary Judgment and Declaratory and
Permanent Injunctive Relief, ECF No. 182, is GRANTED;

(3) DECLARED that Executive Order 14230, 90 Fed. Reg. 11781 (Mar. 11, 2025),
issued by the President on March 6, 2025, entitled “Addressing Risks from Perkins Coie LLP,” is
unlawful because it violates the First, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution and
is therefore null and void;

I didn’t realize that these actions were taken in the name of national security (claiming these law firms were a security risk), but said national security concerns disappeared the moment any law firm bent the knee. Funny how that happened.

The excuse used as the first and last of recourse is always National Security.

Here is Judge Howell’s opinion

Funny how the folks who claim to be super concerned about “lawfare” are silent about this.

Shakespeare quote? and then the twist " kill all the lawyers we don’t like". Sweet!
question: how endangered do the firms who cut deals now feel? Well done to Williams and Connoly.

Endangered? Not at all, I’d guess. They will probably suffer a bit in recruiting for a few years. Clients will mostly understand. If only one firm had caved, it could have suffered quite a bit. But so many well-respected firms caved that there is some safety in numbers.
