man, i’m envious of those people that don’t have to hear that four letter word in the forecast. it’s going to be a loooong winter of trainer/rollers/treadmill/blackline… maybe some snow shoe racing.
training for an IM in late Nov while living in NY… today’s high 44* with rain getting down to 25* tonight w/snow! gotta love it.
(at least the deer will be moving on Saturday morning)
yikes, that’s early! I can sympathize with you, it’s going to get down into the 60’s overnight here in florida. I might have to bring a long sleeve shirt to the pool deck tomorrow morning for practice! The weatherman said there’s something called a “cold front” coming in, whatever that is.

And that’s why I moved to CA 2 months ago. It was 52 here this morning. So I’ll be riding inside instead.
Speaking of snow, what temperature do you guys stop wearing shorts? I’m new to this.
And does anyone have solutions for thin, warm socks in 10-20* F? I was thinking of going ghetto and slipping my feet with my hyperthin socks into a plastic bag, cutting off excess, and then into the shoe…

Stop wearing shorts when you get too cold. 50 or less for me (Fahrenheit). But depends on the speed/intensity of the ride.
Are you talking 10-20* farenheit? Thin socks won’t cut it. Get some neoperene shoe covers. Cuz your toes will freeze. Plastic bag won’t help.
It was 12 degrees in Boulder this morning with 10 inches of snow on the ground…set a record high on Monday with 80. But the snow will all be gone by the end of the weekend and we’ll be out riding again when it’s 60.
Yeah, sorry I wasn’t clear. I was concerned about running, as I’ll be using my trainer for biking (not half-bad with freezing air pulled through the fan)
I’ll look into the wool socks. I have traditional long ones for boots, but I’m hoping they make thinner ones for running.
10 degrees or less - one layer thin wool or poly sock, then plastic bag from a loaf of bread, then one more layer thin wool sock over. Your feet will be wet but toasty.
Running… Yeah, I wear pants under 50 (loose running pants). Tights when it gets <40. Unless it’s a race. Then I’ll do shorts down to about 35. Wool socks should work. But I’ve just stuck with the heaviest running socks I have anyway. No problems. Toes get cold, but not too bad unless you are out there over an hour.

I live on Long Island. Right now it is raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock and 49. They are talking snow North and West of us and a low of 38 tonight. Kind of early for this kind of weather down here.
I don’t even own a set of candy wrappers. Shorts no matter what, running or biking. Of course, I grew up in the Great White North, so this is just a balmy spring day
