Snoring

Does anyone have a sleep aid that legit works to help you stop snoring? Or at least reduce snoring?

Everything I see online seems like snake oil.

CPAP. I don’t nod of in long work meeting any more.

It’s complete pain in the ass, but it has noticeably improved my life. Have you considered a sleep study?

Breath Right nasal strips help me. Not a cure, but opens up the nasal ways for sure and easier breathing through nose. I’ve worn them every night for many years.

People also tape their mouth shut to force 100% nose breathing. Sounds scare, but it actually isnt’. I tried it for awhile. My dad tapes his mouth shut and he has sleep apnia, and it had a massive change on his wake events during the night…almost dropping them to zero. He was already on a cpap machine.

Anyway, none of the above are cures, but try them and monitor their effects.

Isn’t that for sleep apnea? I have no issues sleeping. I sleep like a log.

The snoring bothers my wife.

Sleep apnea has nothing to do with issues sleeping. It’s with breathing issues while sleeping. A second the recommendation of a sleep study.

Everyone thinks they sleep fine,…until they get a sleep study.
You are unlikely to be able to get a reputable CPAP without a sleep study.
Oral appliances can do the trick - they have pros and cons.
Oral myotherapy can help, but is not a quick fix. Lip taping is one exercise amongst many.

Laser alteration of the oropharynx. Look up NightLase.

My wife kept complaining that my snoring was keeping her up. She pushed and pushed so I went and got a sleep study done and found, I didn’t snore and slept well. About a week later I was laying in bed, wide awake and she nudges me and says, roll over, you’re snoring. I got pissed and said, “I went through all this shit because you said I was snoring and I’m not even asleep.”

Come to find out, she was snoring and waking herself up.

I’ve had two sleep tests done, both negative for apnea. Turns out I just snore. But agree with others, anyone that is a snorer should get a test done to make sure there are no apnea issues. These days you can do them at home.

Besides what i’ve mentioned above, there are also some mouth fixtures I think you can get made (from dentists?) that also are supposed to help snoring.

I believe there is also sleep positions and pillow arrangement that are better and worse for causing snoring. Look those up also.

All of these things are not mutually exclusive, can try multiple things to help it.

This is why old people often no longer sleep together.

I wasn’t a big snorer, but would wake myself occasionally because my neck was in a weird, kinked angle. Think chin to chest, so my wife got me a funky looking pillow from Sutera, Dream Pillow. Works good, especially if you’re a back sleeper.

Same.

The advice I was given was “lose some weight you fat fuck.”

Same advice I gave her when she was complaining about her scrubs being too tight.

Stop drinking like a fish
.

I have maybe 3 drinks a week. That’s a heavy drinking week.

Such a poor Canadian. You can do better.

But yes, generally alcohol is a snoring inducer… So say the “experts”.

.

Try committing to sleeping on your side, not your back. Everyone knows side-sleepers snore less.

Get your wife to drink more so she does not notice

Are you a mouth breather? If so, could try taping your mouth shut & is super cheap to try. Hot tip, use a micropore paper tape & not sports tape, I may or may not have learnt the hard way…

D’Wife snores, but it’s not disturbing and doesn’t keep me awake. In fact, it’s more like a purr

It’s actually relaxing and helps me go back to sleep if I wake up

There’s a ‘discovery’ that’s been popping up in my feeds lately about ‘brown noise’ which can help people with ADHD or tinnitus

That being said, she says that I snore, if I’m laying a certain way - she’ll give me a shove I’ll roll and go back to sleep

Unless the Jimmy Legs kick in; then I go onto the couch or other room
