I’ve been trying to eat more protein for breakfast, but I’m about done with peanut butter and the like. I love smoked salmon and bagels for breakfast, but the salmon is really expensive. Does anyone know of a better/cheaper source? Any good experiences?
Not really cheap, but I love my Greek yogurt. 17-20g of carbs for about $0.80-1.50 depnding on brand and sales. I’m addicted to Fage brand but its’ a little more expensive. My wife like Okios (sp?) by Dannon. You also get calcium too.
Eggs are pretty cheap. Egg whites if your concerened about fat and cholesterol. Add some low fat cheese for flavor. Actually a carton of generic liquid egg whites is about $2.00 I think, and that’s like 100g of protein.
You can add honey to the yogurt to sweeten it. That’s my preference.

Catch and smoke your own … that’s fairly inexpensive.
Smoking a salmon can be very difficult … its hard to keep them lighted and inhaling is tough;-)

x100. Love smoked salmon. Hope someone offers suggestions on where to get it. Everything I’ve found on the internet is more expensive than in our local grocery.
A lot of salmon has very high levels of mercury. So I’d be careful about eating this fish daily.

Lol. However, smoking my own is a possibility. I do own an smoker and I’ve “Hot” smoked salmon many times. But cold smoking is more difficult and can take up to 3 days. Unless someone knows a better technique?
I’ve made my own cold cured salmon. It does take 3 days but it’s really easy. it lasts about 3 weeks after it’s done so you can do a bunch of it and have it for a while.
It took me a while to to try it because of how long it took, but it’s a way to preserve salmon that’s been around for a very long time, so it’s a lot easier than it seems.
