Smith at 70.3?

Just thinking outside the box, but could Spencer be setting himself up for a great day in Clearwater? I think he is qualified…I guess I should have checked for sure, but using Kona and Florida for training purposes only to medal in Clearwater would sure vindicate his efforts…he is such an amazing athlete and to talk of retirement is unfortunate, but we’ve all had bad days.

I would say that anyone in that mental state will not be able to perform at thier highest level.

…I guess I should have checked for sure,

I guess you should. On the entry list you’d have seen:

** Smith Spencer M PRO USA**

Why the heck is he racing for the US? I guess they’ve listed residency but not nationality. WTC invariably seem to do that, but it’s the least of my gripes about them…

Well, Spencer sure was strong this spring, and it would be nice to see him do well in Clearwater, but warming up with an Ironman is not the way to peak. Half Ironman is about Olympic distance speed spread over 4 hours. The real Ironman dudes can’t compete as well with the Olympic distance specialists at the half distance. Just look at St. Croix and Wildflower: Alexandar, Carfrae, McGlone, Bozonne (sp?)

Correct about the residency thing. I put down UK but because I’m currently living in the states they list me as racing for the US…

I just had a quick chat with Spencer - he is certainly going to be at Clearwater and is definitely intending to have a great day - commentating .

While not a big fan at first…I must say his bike looked SWEET! If he does retire and you need somone to ride it, give me a call, i’ll fly with you.

Me funny.
