Hi, I am new to the site and found information regarding the slowtwitch bike and tri team as an alternative to those racing unattached. Is that still in place?

thanks for your reply. Under the slowtwich apparel there was some information about becoming part of the bike/ tri team for those that currently race unattached. I dont think it was for an specific event but more like a general proposition since there were no dues or meeting required for the team only to buy and wear the appareal while racing.

SLOWTWITCH BIKE RACING TEAM
We’re announcing a pair of teams. First and foremost, we think triathletes should consider bike racing. Our staff is pretty much unanimous in that we believe bike racing will make you a better cyclist, and it’s a ball of fun! OK, it’s not for everybody, but if you think it might be for you, the Slowtwitch team will be a full-fledged USCF team. Of course if you don’t want to race bikes we still hope you’ll help support the cause and invest in some gear!
Why do we have a bike racing team? Several reasons, all intended to make it a bit easier for triathletes to engage in bicycle racing.
First, via our forum we intend to have a little “support group” for those of you who’re willing to take the plunge. Second, there is the legality of it all. It’s not like triathlon. You can’t wear whatever you want in a bike race. You may not wear anything substantially textual (you can’t have words or sponsors on your clothing) unless such wording belongs to a cycling team you’re a member of. We’ll jump through those hoops for you. Third, entry fees are cheaper if you’re a member of a team as opposed to racing “unattached.”
What do you have to do to be a member of the Slowtwitch cycling team?
- Buy at least one cycling jersey and a pair of shorts or a bib.
- Let us know you want to be on the roster (via the radio button on the order form above).
- Buy a USCF bicycle racing license (just like buying a USAT license) and name us as your team.
There are no dues, no meetings, no mandatory races, nothing.
SLOWTWITCH TRIATHLON TEAM
Same sorta thing, except we aren’t soliciting your membership away from another triathlon team. We’d love it if you bought some of our apparel, but we’re not poaching team members.
If you don’t belong to a team and would like to be part of the Slowtwitch team, it’s just as simple as buying the apparel and telling us you want to be on the team. Let USAT know that as well whenever you’re filling out a USAT form.
As is the case with the cycling team, it’s (U.S.) nationwide—there are no meetings, no dues, and no rules except that you race honestly and fairly, and act like the ladies and gentlemen we know all Slowtwitch readers are.
Not quite sure what you’re speaking of. Slowtwicth did do a fund raiser under the name “Peaceful Tribe”. The fund raising was for CAF I believe and most of teh product was thru cervelo.
As far as I know the product is no longer available.
Other than that I’ve never heard of a ST team. Other than the “friendly competition” we are having with Tri Newbies Online for IMWI.

we were inactive as a team over the past couple of seasons, both tri and road race. but we’re doing a new apparel buy as we speak, and we’re going to ramp back up and be back in the team milieu for next year.
we do have a workable apparel ordering page, tho our new order of apparel is not going to be in for awhile yet.

thanks for the answer. So the team participation is coming back then for 06 on road and tri? I guess then the team will be recognized by usacycling and usat and you could race as membe of the team?

yeah, that was the idea in times past. pretty much you could say we did this just so triathletes who wanted to road race could save on the entry fees. and, those who (let’s say) wanted to get a team discount at a retailer would be able to say they’re on a registered tri team.
You have to buy this shirt first.
(not really, but I wonder if this is how you found slowtwitch and caused you to ask your question).
cool idea but not the way I found the info. I found it via a link on the website that apparently is not up to date or was inactive, can recall which one.

Is the new apparel going to be different from what’s currently on the website? Seems like the design could use some updating. I really like the CAF stuff…
