Sleeves with non sleeved swim skin

I have seen the new swim skins with sleeves. I read something where they said one of the advantages was you don’t have to roll down your sleeved top for the swim. I thought WTC changed their rules so you can wear a sleeved tri suit with a sleeveless wetsuit or swimskin. Could someone please clarify the rules?

They changed the rules. I wore a sleeved tri suit under a sleeveless swim skin for a 70.3 in August and an IM in October.

That’s correct. As long as the sleeves do not pass the elbows, you are allowed to wear sleeved tri suits under swim skins. I used my Kiwami LD under by Zoot swim skin for one of the IM 70.3 races. No problem swimming with sleeves. In fact, managed to better my time by 10 minutes from the previous year.

Thanks…so what is the point of sleeved swim skins? Are they supposed to be faster…similar to a sleeved suit being faster on the bike?

The sleeved tri suit does not have the same hydrophobic properties as the swim skin. You want to cover your trisuit. There may also be advantage to having more surface area covered by the swim skin for speed
