I was diagnosed with a SLAP tear in my right shoulder a few years ago. I have continued to do PT exercises. Pain has gotten to be more often (almost constant) and more intense, at times. Has anyone had surgery for a SLAP tear in their shoulder? What has been your outcome? Any other information and suggestions are appreciated!

I had a SLAP tear surgically repaired (no other option in my case).
Rehab was slow, but I don’t even notice now. Except swimming hard.
I was a very slow swimmer when it happened, not much has changed.
(I probably should give swimming one more go, though.)
Given I couldn’t extend my arm prior to surgery, I’m thrilled.
Take recovery seriously. Actually, you really won’t have much choice.
I had it twice, both due to baseball. It is something that you can mess up if you aren’t on top of your PT. The hardest thing about recovery is the scar tissue that might form in your shoulder. The most painful part of the surgery is when they shave your acromion. It will take probably 3-6 months before you will want to be swimming. If you are worried about the surgery there are so any surgeries on youtube to watch. Best of luck with the surgery.
Omg what a pain!!! I was out open water swimming when the dreaded pain struck and I had to doggie back to shore, which is when I decided to get it done. Best decision I ever made all the “real” pain is gone and I can swim and play with the kids.
Most importantly rehab quick! I took no pills and used my pain threshold as my guide and within 3 months it just hurt but not the bad kind you deal. With now. Anyway good luck!
I had it from over use swimming. rehab was good. 8 weeks of PT, 12 weeks total. was swimming after 3 months. Just have to be careful with paddles and any over head use. You will be fine, but rehab is very important.
Had it done as well, had most of my biceps tendon torn away. Probably from over-use swimming coming from the background. Rehab was about 6 months, took about 1 year to feel completely back to normal. Haven’t had any problem now for almost 8 years and back doing everything I did before, lifting same amount of wts, swimming just as much. Best decision I made because I was in agony for a year prior trying to stave off surgery.
