O Gurus of Aero,
What is the difference between the Castelli Sanremo 2.0 Speed Suit and the Castelli Body Paint 2.0 Speed Suit? Is one more aero? Lighter? I know the San Remo is a tad more $$ but that’s about it.
Thanks in advance!

I was looking at those two awhile back and I believe that the main difference is the cut. San Remo has 3 pockets and a longer frontal section so that it still fits when you aren’t in a TT tuck. The body paint may have a slightly thinner/specialized lycra but has a number flap in lieu of pockets and a short frontal section so that is fits best in your aero position.
Are you thking about using these in a Tri? I was wondering if something like this might work as it looked to me like Mario Vanhoenacker was using one in IM Hawaii with a 1/2 sleeve.
Has anyone tried using these in a race? Can you run in them??

This is the SanRemo skinsuit we’re talking about here? It has pockets?

I was actually not even considering using one in a tri, until you mentioned it! I was more thinking along the lines of a time trial skinsuit for A-event TT’s.

San Remo is a road “skinsuit” essentially an aero jersey attached to the shorts. The Body Paint is a true skin suit specifically meant for TT’s.
From what I can tell, the San Remo is more like a crit speed suit and not a true skin suit like the Body Paint. If you’re looking for a TT only outfit, definitely go Body Paint.

Marino raced it in Frankfurt, too - his are made by Bioracer, popular with Belgian and German teams. He obviously runs well in it. It’s probably quite nice not to have the sun straight on your shoulder during a race.
Pearl Izumi also makes a sleeved piece called the Octane, I believe.

The Castelli skinsuits are cut for an aero tuck (short in the chest, long in the back), so they are not really meant for running upright.
They have a really great pad (the X2), but it’s on the large side, and probably not good to run in.
Castelli makes a trisuit that is the same fabric as the “free” shorts (no sleeves though).
