Single Leg Raises....hip(back?) pops/grinds?

Everytime I do leg raises with my left leg as I bring the leg down I hear this grinding/popping noise. Its a deep noise and almost sounds likes its coming from my back or hip. It doesn’t hurt at all. But should I be concerned?

There are MANY things this could be - psoas, hip, pelvis to name a few. In general, my rule of thumb is that if popping, grinding etc happens EVERY TIME you do something it is not acceptable, whether it hurts or not.

I am assuming you are on your back doing leg raises and so I have three suggestions for you.

STOP doing them - supine leg raises are mostly useless IMO.
If you have to keep doing them, raise your heel only 6 inches off the ground - you will get good quad activation, but avoid most of the hip flexor activation.
If you have to keep doing them, really tighten your lower abdominals prior to doing the leg raise.

Good luck!
