Given the depth I think a more reasonable question would be, Enve 6.7 or Zipp 404fc front zipp 808fc rear.
and I would lean toward it kind of being hair split-tingly small differences, the zipp might be more stable in crosswinds at a given depth to some degree.
Zipps are getting played out; EVERYONE has them. I’d go Enve if I were buying right now. Though the Zipps are still slightly better I believe.
Simply my personal choice: ENVEs with Chris King R45, Sapim CXray spokes. These is my dream wheelset if money were no option.
Reasons: Less seen than the very common Zipp. Made in America points. Chris King rear hub sounds SOOOO AMAZING if…IF, I ever coast.

Thanks for replying Jack… was hoping you would.
The 6.7’s would come with King Hubs… the 808’s have the standard 188 Zipps. Any significant difference in reliability??
I’d go with the Enve’s because they look cooler and they’ve got a 5 year warranty. I have no idea which wheel would actually be faster…or if there even is a difference in speed.
No idea if there is a substantive difference in reliability of the hubs.

Enve are awesome. I have 8.9 clinchers on Chris King hubs. An amazing wheel set. Very stable in crosswind, feel very fast, climb well for that depth. 6.7’s are similar obviously – a little lighter, a little more stable, a little more all-around (duh). You will love them. And the 5 year warranty on carbon clinchers!
I have a set of Enve 45/65 carbon clinchers from WheelBuilder. I train and race in them and would say they are near bombproof. I agonized for months over whether to get Enve or Zipp and decided that Enve was the better wheel considering multiple factors and reviews. I am now thinking of getting a set of Enve Smart System 8.9s. Between the two I should have all situations covered.
I don’t have experience with Zipps but own ENVE 6.7 and 8.9 and they are both fantastic wheel sets. They handle really well even in windy conditions, have a great warranty, and are light for their respective depth.
They are both top notch wheels and which one is best might be dependent on subtle things like frame/fork interactions. As already mentioned the 6.7 is a better match with the 404 and the 808s pair with 8.9.
If it were my decision I would do the ENVE wheels because of the warranty.
I’ve just ordered a set of the Enve wheels. They’re ready to pick up but I’m going to wait until my LBS can build up my new 2014 shiv, which should be here by now…
For me the choice was easy with the Enves but I didn’t know which way to go with the hubs. You definitely think the R45s over the DT180s? I’ve got the 240s on them for now.
Chris king stuff is just awesome. R45s all the way.
I’ve got the Enve 3.4 tubs on CK hubs. Love them. No issues whatsoever with rims, hubs or spokes. I actually swapped out the OEM 404’s for the Enve’s and was happy, and still am, to pay that premium. I use them as my everyday wheels and racing wheelset. Done plenty of miles on them so far.
I also own 303’s and 808’s, both of which are non-FC versions. I’m looking to upgrade the 808’s and will likely go with the Enve 8.9 with CK hubs as well.
My impression is: If I bought new Zipp 808FC’s, there’d always be a question in the back of my mind about whether I should have plumped down for the 8.9’s. However, if I bought the 8.9’s, I doubt there would be that same question coming back regarding the 808’s.
I have 6.7 tubulars (raced for 3 seasons) and I am switching to 404/808 firecrest clincher. In my research, the 404/808 is ever-so-slightly faster than 6.7, and probably just as easy to ride in a crosswind. There doesn’t seem to be any innovation in the tubular market any more and the market rate for 6.7 clinchers is $1000 more than the 404/808.
The extra bonus with the 404/808 combo is that you can dress it up for any occasion. Get a 808 front and a wheel cover and you are good to go for calm days. The ENVE equivalent would be a set of 8.9’s with a 6 front. Doable, yes, but the price tag is north of $3500.00. The 808 front/rear is likely faster than the 8.9.
If I was still racing road, or riding in the mountains, I would have stuck with the tubulars. If HED doesn’t think they can build heat resistant clinchers, why does ENVE and Zipp? But for Tri, when I rarely even use my brakes, the clinchers are probably OK.

Both hub sets are great. I’ve ridden both and they’re both excellent. I had always just wanted CKing hubs and have been happy with them. The DT Swiss are excellent though – you won’t be disappointed and don’t need to worry about switching.
Simple question, yes. Simple answer? On ST? No way. No first hand experience with Enve, but I’m guessing you’ll be happy with either.
I have experience with both Zipp and Enve (and Hed) wheels as well. I would also rec the Enves, especially if you are going to train and race on them. IF there is any difference in drag, if will be miniscule, but the Enves ARE more reliable (and great service).
