Bike protection using Pool Noodles, Zip Ties and a pair of scissors!..
Having a home in Salt Lake City and Huntington Beach we transport our bikes back and forth, throughout the year. I discovered a simple way to keep the bikes from banging together and getting scratched up on my hitch mounted rack. (This might also be a good way to protect your bike when using Bike Transport Companies!??)
Cool, that’s why I went with a folding hitch mount Thule 990xt. I never could actually get 4 bikes on the 4 bike carrier hanging without them beating them all up.
Now I just stand them up and add the +2 extension when I need to carry the kids bikes as well.
Cool, thanks!
Was having same problem so I only put mountain bikes on the 4 bike rack as I don’t mind scratching them.
Do you fasten the noodles on with anything or do they stay in place ok?
Zip Tie each one… Buy a bag of them, use a pair of wire cutters to take them off. Mark each pieces location with a sharpie. Yellow noodles is my wife’s bike, green noodle pieces is sons and mine are blue.
So do I with some velcro to keep it all in place. Plus a bit of sofa cushioning salvaged from the side of the road and re-shaped into bike protection! (love my sewing machine)
