Silicone Swim Cap Slips off

Ok, what’s the trick? Silicone swim caps slip all around and off my head while swimming. I must have stopped 4 or 5 times in Roth to adjust this super luxury cap. I have been experimenting since I’ve gotten back and I can’t figure out how to keep it in place.

Perhaps my head is too big . . . or too small . . . or too empty.

Any tips welcomed. Thanks,

For me, putting the goggles on over the cap helps, because the goggle straps hold the cap in place. However, this increases the risk of goggle loss though…

Yeah, I always put my goggles over the cap. Thanks for not making comments about my head!

When I used the silicon dome style caps the only way to ensure they stayed on was to put a latex cap on underneath it. With silicon you also have to pull it very tight onto your head, best to have someone else do it for you.

Not enough hair?

I dunno. Our team caps are silicone, and I’ve been using the same one for several seasons now w zero slippage.

Maybe try a little duct tape? Staples? Velcro?

Try some different brands? Maybe even try a thinner cheap one? Youth size? These things are not that expensive, but it’s costing your real time. You’d spend $500+ to gait 2 minutes on the bike, but you probably lost that much because of the $10 swim cap… that will last a really, really long time even swimming anywhere from 10-20k yards a week for 2 years. I have a speed cap (I think it’s silicone) that I’ve had for over 2 years now and use it 5-6 times a week swimming.

Maybe before a race, try using only cheap shampoo and no conditioner? Seriously! Wash out the inside of the cap with soap and water, then some diluted alcohol to remove any oils.

what fishoutofwater said… latex under the silicone… even then they have a tendency to slip a little.

I’ve given up on silicone caps and just use latex. Cheaper and more secure…

Another vote for goggles over cap. I have never had any issues. Make sure they are tight, and you are solid.

goggles dont stay on my head if I put the straps over the cap. I always put straps under. Never an issue, but this is highly individual depending on the shape of ones head.

straps under the cap should also be slightly faster (theoretically)…

I don’t buy silicone caps… I don’t buy any! I have plenty of race caps. I’m just trying to figure out how to use, and brag about, the one from Roth!

Perhaps I need a new hair do. I have old man, conservative cut, gray hair. I’m trying to avoid adhesives and fasteners.

Maybe I should try a Herbert hair cut
