Yes, leave in pot and reuse - And debris/dirt sinks to the bottom of the pot, as you pull the chain out the top then it comes out with the clean. Eventually when the wax volume reduces to just covering the chain then it gets dumped, and new granules go in. I’ve not counted how many cycles I got out of each (half) bag. But it was loads. 20+ at a wild guess but could be a lot more.
As for the wet issue. Yes, you do need to wax more often if riding in the rain, but the debris is on the top of the wax and not in contact with the drivetrain. If it’s dry next ride then the debris just drops off as you ride so long as there’s still some wax cover. I tend to get 400km between dry re-waxes, maybe 200km if it’s proper rain.
