Making the switch to latex tubes and been through all the old threads and Thomas Gerlach’s super helpful articles. Seems the consensus is that Silca Rim Tape is the best. But it’s not on their website and I’m nervous about buying it on Amazon.
Is it just out of stock or was it discontinued? Anyone have a good alternative or is it just back to Stan’s?

I am sure Josh might pipe in here. I liked Silca Rim Tape. Two defining features of it were that it was translucent and allowed you to read serial numbers of wheels which wasn’t super relevant but a feature nonetheless. The other thing I liked about it was that it was thinner thus making tubeless mounting of tight tires just a little easier. If you can’t find Silca though, Stan’s is still a great alternative.
We have discontinued our rim tape… so many wheel brands are now requiring the use of their own tape for warranty purposes and so on that it ceased to remain a viable bit of business. I’d recommend the Effetto Mariposa tape if you need something really thin for tire fitment, otherwise 3M 8896 or Tesa 4298 are both solid options.
Thanks Josh! My Silca tubes arrived today, excited to get them on as soon as I figure out the rim tape. I’ve got a 2016 Zipp 808 up front and Super 9 in back, both with the stock Zipp tubeless tape. Looks like this:

Do you have any experience running your tubes on that rim tape? Or to be safe should I take that out and put some of the stuff you recommended?
Appreciate your help.

Zipps of that era didn’t use tubeless tape as they weren’t tubeless compatible, if the photo is what you have that is a nylon hoop rim strip. I have the same Zipp FC’s in 404/808/Super9 and have used the stock Zipp rim strips with Victoria latex tubes w/o issues. It’s not usually an issue with these FC clinchers, but if your selected tires are difficult to install, the use of thin tubeless tape would help.
