Ok, I finally found that if I cinch the straps right on my sidis they fit really well, which is a revelation after 2 years of complaining that the heel cups were too narrow for me! So I have decided that I want to replace them with a 3 buckle style (in either a 42 or 43) which means either the Energy or the ERgo. There is a considerable price difference between the two so if you had the wedge for either which would you go for and why? I am aiming to purchase in the next three weeks so availability may be an issue too.

I have both Sidi road and tri shoes now, the Genius on the road and the T1 for tri. Last year I ahd the Ergo, I was underwhelmed by it. Nice, but not worth the price IMO when you consider how nice the less expensive shoes are.

So it seems the energy would be the model for me, do you stock them Tom?

OK, job done. I ordered the Energy in Silver. Once, a decision is made you got to keep moving, if you keep moving they can’t get you! Come on, Tom, name the writer the quote comes from).

I ordered the Energy in Silver

I have been using the Energy (in silver!) for close to two years and they have been excellent: no hotspots even after 8-hour rides, very easy to adjust on-the-fly, and very comfortable. The Energy adjustment system didn’t do anything for me though, but maybe it does for larger riders.

Enjoy them!

POINT: Sidi has half sizes (if you’re in between)
.

Thanks John, I had forgotten about the energy adjustment system on the sole. What is it supposed to do change the sole from stiff to very stiff?! At 150 lbs coming out of the valve I don’t anticipate that I will notice a difference either.

I like my T1’s for short course tri’s although I may see about switching to a shimano when we’re stateside as this is a solid she and will fall in line with my road racing shoe…

I feel a stiffer shoe than the sidi may be more beneficial when i go long course later this year.

The guy who sold them to me told me that the ease of entry into a tri shoe is not really worth the loss in stability. In other words, he strongly recommended that I buy the true 3 strap road shoe, even though my main purpose in life is to train for and participate in triathlons (that’s somewhat overstated).

Did I get good advice?

Do you guys use road or tri shoes for your triathlons? Does the distance of the tri make a difference?

cheers

The T1 is too insubstantial an upper for my liking, hence the Time CX Iron being my tri shoe of choice. Although the NW Tribal seems to be the only shoe I haven’t discounted yet, having said that I am trying really hard to justify the Rocket 7 custom to myself!!

What is it supposed to do change the sole from stiff to very stiff?

That’s what Sidi claims. I’ve tried the full stiff setting and the full loose one and I could not tell a difference. I tried full stiff on one shoe and full loose on the other at the same time, and still could not tell a difference. Of course, the fact that it takes some time to adjust it does not make comparisons easy, not to mention that the Speedplays I’m using make the task even more difficult since they do not have the most secure interface between pedal and cleat around.

I ended up setting it to full stiff and haven’t bothered with it since.

John

Think I will set them at super stiff and leave them. It’s not a feature that I require but it’s on the shoe I want, so there it is.

Thanks for the feedback though.
