Sidi Buckle Won't Release

I was getting ready for a ride and couldn’t put on my Sidi Genius shoes as the buckle would not release when I pinched the sides together. They are an older pair of the pair but in great condition otherwise. I tried cleaning in and around the buckle and also applied lube to see if that we work. No luck with either. Any suggestions?

Clean and inspect ratcheted plastic strap for burrs or imperfections. Also, try blowing out mechanism with air compressor to remove tiny hidden particles (sand, etc.).

Don’t pinch the sides together, push the sides down

I had the velcro come off a pair a long time ago. I send them to Sidi and they sent me a free pair. I’m not sure how it is now. It might have been because they weren’t worn out and it was only maybe 2 years old… only the velcro itself failed. Could have been a known isue with a batch of that shoe.

I think they make rebuild kits including new buckles.

I was in the ER after a bike crash a couple years ago. There were people poking and proding me to check for various injuries. They cut off my kit, but couldn’t figure out how to unlatch my Sidis. I remember them asking me how to do it, but there was too much commotion. They finally got them off.

Later, I was in the hospital room recovering when a nurse brought in a bag with my Sidis. She apologized that should couldn’t figure out the latch, so they had cut them off.

So that’s apparently wone way to get the buckle to release.

What’s funny is that I was more upset about the Sidis than the busted up Supersix Evo frame.

If the strap was pushed all the way in…the release mech gets stuck. Flex the strap/buckle area like an upside down U looking at it from the top. This creates the space the push button needs to release.
Sorry, kind of hard to explain but it will likely make sense when you are holding the shoe.

Remember the Sidi Genius buckles release the opposite way of the other shoes  Push down, don’t pinch or pull up the lever.

Poor choice of words in my original post as I wrote “pinch together” but meant “push down.” I used a screw driver to create a little space and a hair dryer to blow out debris. Worked like a charm! Thanks for all the suggestions.
