Side Mounted Pedals

What ever happened, anyone using long term? These looked interesting, but I was waiting to get more input from users. Doesn’t seem like it ever took off.

I’ve never seen those in use, but I wouldn’t mind trying a pair.

It’s probably quite flexy unless you make the cleat pretty heavy duty. You’re putting a load pretty far out from the fulcrum,m

A friend of mine used something similar. I think the side mount was through an external cleat. Not sure how it worked, but she definitely wore Sidis. Her big problem was “clipping in” or “sliding in” or whatever to the spindle. Don’t think she stuck with them for very long. This was in the 2003, 2004 timeframe, and I think they were experimental.

They list 10 advantages and about 5 of them seem either completely inconsequential, and the rest seem pretty minor, if they exist at all.

I just don’t see anything so important that makes me want to buy something so different

Well, I guess no one on ST tried them for any length of time. Or at least they don’t want to admit it.

I really dont see a problem they are solving.

I half see one of the issues, but then I’m not convince that it doesn’t just replace that with another. But is this for real? It’s not one of Sheldon Brown’s (Ride in Peace) April fool inventions?

I do love the anti theft one. Because the scallies that take bikes to flog in online auctions all go around with 3 pairs of shoes incase the bike they are nicking has look, shimano or speedplay pedals…

Very real been being sold for a few years now. There was some discussion on these when they came out. I was wondering if anyone who looked at them bought them and what they thought long term. Not really looking for speculation, but hey it keeps bumping it back to the first page.

I’ve been to the guys shop who designed/ makes them. He posts on ST, docfuel and R10C had them.

Yes the pedals are still out there. I would say I have maybe 150 to 200 people on them. I have close to 50,000 miles on them. I think the main point I was trying to get across, with the design, was less rocking torque, and a wider Q factor. And no, they do not flex because the cleat in made of investment cast tit.
