Siberian Ginseng

Does anyone have their own empirical evidence to support the claimed stamina benefits of Siberian Ginseng (Eleutheroccus senticosus) in the multisport world?

I’m just curious to see if others have received any benefit from the supplement.

There is no study that sufficiently proves any benefit from ginseng. Save the money for some snake tonic.

Ask any of my aquaintances, I am the biggest sceptic going. However, I use it and have found the number of colds that I have had since taking it regularly to have dropped from 2 or more a year to 2 in 6 years. I can’t quote any “credible” studies but that has been my personal experience. It also worked for my mother who used to require annual flu jabs to try (unsucessfully) to reduce te number of colds she contracted.

Siberian Ginseng is an apaptogen herb (it’s not a stimulant like its cousins). It helps your body adapt/respond well to physical and emotional stress. I think it can also reduce cortisol levels for stress physical/emotional. I find that it simply helps me cope when I’m training hard (20 hour weeks) or are under a lot stress at work (although just switched jobs and have a much lower stress level at work-hopefully stays that way). Check out www.wholehealthmd.com really cool website with info about vites and herbs go to the a-z directory. Endurox excel is siberian ginseng (Ciwujia is also another name for siberian ginseng) They claim that it increases oxygen utilization—I haven’t really noticed anything to support this claim. In short it is the only herb I supplement (except for echinacea when sick). The other thing is that it’s really cheap; most grocery stores sell it $5-6. It goes by 3 different names as mentioned (siberian ginseng, eleuthero, and Ciwujia)-----spelling may be wrong on those last two.
