Since working remotely/from home, I have the luxury of being able to schedule workouts three times a day - first slot is before the family rises, second is during the lunch hour, and the third is late in the evening after work/family obligations are met.
After each of these workouts, I’d like to have a shower. So at the moment, I’m showering twice a day for the two workouts that I fit into the slots.
Dilemma is - do I shower three times a day? I don’t have clients to visit (for this contract at least), and don’t see anyone besides the daily courier. But not showering after a workout feels dirty.
How do you do it? Shower after every workout? Or full shower once a day and rinse off quickly multiple times?
I just got in the same situation, and have the same situation. Worried 3 showers will dry out my skin too much.
Currently I am skipping a shower post swim… I figure I am pretty bald, so hair won’t matter. Not sure which is better for my skin, a third shower or leaving chlorine on it…
At this stage they’re not super-intensive workouts. The bike will be about 30 minutes on the TT (whilst sorting out fitting and saddle comfort before going longer) and the run is 5-6km in 30 mins. So nothing particularly taxing, more form-building. I intend to add a swim to the mix, which will be done at the local pool.
I’ve been doing it since working from home - beginning of April. Mostly weekdays, on weekends I’m out and about with family.
Indeed two/three showers per day will have me squeaky clean, dried out, water bill up, wrinkly etc.
So to the collective again - shower frequently, lightly, or not at all?
I have same situation as you more or less but usually it’s 2 workouts per day (and maybe something recreational like hockey). Used to shower after each but is really not helping skin/hair. I am experimenting with a baby wipe ‘clean up’ after first workout since I usually just put on shorts/t-shirt after anyway and it’s just me and dog. So far so good.
Do you feel the need to shower? Do you feel like you smell or have a strong sense of being clean?
I work from home. I leave the home frequently to meet friends/clients to workout. I rarely shower, lol.
If I do, it’s typically at the end of the day. And I certainly count swimming as a shower. Close enough for me. So for instance, I ran this morning, plan to cycle tonight. I haven’t showered yet. I will likely shower tonight after the 2nd workout. Yesterday, I swam in the morning, cut grass around noon and then ran in the evening. I showered after dinner. Unless I need to be in a professional setting, I don’t see the need to shower multiple times a day.
I’d be worried about my water bill more than dry skin. If I was working out & working up a real sweat 3 times a day, I would be showering 3 times a day.

I’d actually ensure I was showering after a swim to get all those chemicals off my skin and out of my hair. Sweat is way more natural than choline and bromine so if something’s going to hang out on my body it should be natural.
I shower after each. But if your bike and run are short and not too intensive why not just make it a brick workout?
The real problem comes once you do this for awhile and associate showering only with workouts. Then something comes up and you don’t workout for a couple days and realize you are starting to smell a little funky.
i don’t shower on a regular basis as I rarely feel the need to. I keep well hydrated and swim 4x per week. I have a shaved head so I don’t need to shampoo and I hot tub at home most evenings. I think too much soap use damages the skin. even after working out I rarely smell either.
I have a wife to live with, so I shower after every workout. Dry skin?** That’s what lotion is for**.
After swims, I shower at the gym. That helps me with my own water bill. I shaved my head, so my showers don’t last long.
Thank You! I just don’t understand why gents are so against body lotion.
Normal day is two showers; one after first workout in the morning and second one at the gym after second workout, lotion both times. Sometimes I’ll take a third shower in the evening if I do yard work or something after I get home. I too have a shaved head so a shower is maybe 6-8 minutes at most.
I’m into frequency in the during the week as well. Maybe not the best “quality” for the time, but it works for my schedule and I actually like getting in a quick workout at lunch. It helps me avoid the mid-afternoon crash.
My recommendation is to take one “real” shower per day and then just rinse off after the other ones.
Today is a bit more than usual but:
Woke up and took a showerTook the dog to the parkDrove to a trail on my way to work and ran 3 milesRinsed off in the shower at my officeSwim at lunch (no rinse)Running 5 miles with my wife this evening and will likely to another rinse
Figure out what works for you, but if you’re sweating and rinsing frequently, you probably don’t need more than one real scrub per day.
