Shoulder surgery: all's well

Thank you for your good wishes last week. The surgery went very well even though they found a big tear in the rotator cuff that didn't show in the MRI. So I had the RC tear, a slap tear of the labrum, a small tear of the labrum, some scarring, and some wear and tear to be repaired. Now I'm in a sling for three weeks and will have PT for four to six months. I think all this damage is left over form a running fall I took two years ago that broke my arm and dislocated my elbow, but who knows. The good side to all this is that my wife ordered me a Renn Disc as a get well present! I've wanted one but couldn't see taking off my Zipp 404 for just a little time gain. It does make me feel better, thank you, Michelle.

Glad to hear all went well. Now time to work your tail off in PT. My theory is that there is a lot of pain there and you have to get it all out before you get better. The sooner you get it out, the better.

Sweeney,

I too had surgery two years ago. Torn labrum, stretched capsule. I went to physical therapy with more vigor than I have ever attacked training for any race, ultra marathon or tri. And low and behold my swim is better now than it has ever been. I actually raced last year, but did not train as hard as I wanted. So the bright side is the enevitable…you will be stronger, oh and you got a killer wife.
