Should I set my Garmin to exclude 0 power?

I am wondering if most slow twitchers exclude 0 power or not in their Garmin files?

Exclude 0s in cadence, but not power.

You should always, always ALWAYS include the zeros in your data. Discarding them over-inflates your efforts by a huge amount. The zeros in a ride are almost as valuable as the non zeros.

Editing to add, that I’m not sure what thomas gerlatch would do? Probably would change all the zeros to 300s?

To be clear, your Garmin will ALWAYS record zeros in the file no matter what settings you use. What you are referring to is what your Garmin will display as your average “in ride.” Even if you exclude zeros from your Garmin display setting, the instant you upload that file to something like Strava, Golden Cheetah, Garmin Connect, or TrainingPeaks, the zeros will factor back into the average.

So…if every single software application used to analyze power factors the zeros in…to accurately calculate your TSS, kJs, etc…then you may as well display your power on your Garmin in the same fashion.

Unless of course you bought your power meter as a fancy speedometer…with no intention of doing any analysis, managing your training load, or helping you plan out future race pacing…then by all means…exclude zeros.

Garmin should get rid of that option, it should just always record 0s for power no good reason not to.
